Word Of Mouth Referrals Are Keeping You Broke

Practically every day, I’m hearing about businesses that are saying they don’t ‘need to advertise’  to get new clients, and that they are getting all of their clients from word of mouth and have done for years.

In fact, many of the business owners saying this, are even saying it as if it’s a good thing, they’re actually proud of this statement, and every time I hear a business owner say they don’t need to advertise. I know straight away, that they’re broke or making very little money in their business. They aren’t playing in the big leagues, and never will if they keep doing what they’ve always done.

If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.

Now, having word of mouth recommendations are a good BONUS to have for your business. 
However, it should absolutely under no circumstances be the primary source of income.
Relying on word of mouth to pay the bills, will simply leave you waking up with hope, desperation, and fear. With no control over whether you’ll bring in new clients today.

All of the big businesses you aspire to be like aren’t relying on word of mouth, so why would you?
They’re paying to advertise online. (And So Should You)
Using Google Ads - For search traffic, (people that are problem aware searching for a solution)
 
Then utilizing Facebook and Instagram ads (We at the time of writing mostly use these platforms mostly for retargeting campaigns, but also for cold traffic when an offer is tested, and we’ve got numbers dialed in)
 
and then once they’ve got a visitor to their landing page/website they are capturing leads by offering an ethical bribe. 

And the opt-in bribes can be things like:
  • Website Speed Score Analysis
  • Full Website Review 
  • ​SEO Checks
  • Breakthrough Strategy Session Calls
  • Free Training Videos
And really anything that you know, will add serious value to your prospects and dream clients providing them value way in advance of ever asking for money.
 
If you currently have no real online presence or have thought about these things but putting it off, ask yourself if you’re happy with the money you made this last month, and the month before.
 
And if you are, keep doing what you’re doing, but if you want to make more, allowing scalability, automation, and better clients to work with. 

You need to be advertising.
A famous quote to pay attention to is from Tony Robbins - 

“If you want to be successful, find someone who has achieved the results you want and copy what they do and you'll achieve the same results.”
Success Leaves Clues.
All of the big players in the industry have a predictable system for generating new clients to their business and know two numbers down to the dollar.
 
1) The cost to acquire a strategy session or consultation
2) The cost to acquire a sale

I’ve said it 100 times, and I’ll say it again if you do not know these numbers, and you can’t afford to acquire customers to your business. Then you do not have a business.
